South African refs fit and ready
January 31, 2013, 12:16:54

Ex Sport 24

Cape Town - Meticulous planning, preparation and hard work by South Africa’s top referees, currently at their annual planning camp in the North West province, are the reasons why they consistently rank amongst the best in the world. (Please note Brycy!)

“We’re very proud of the hard work put in by everyone involved at the South African Rugby Referees’ Association,” said Jurie Roux, CEO of the South African Rugby Union (SARU).
It’s evident when you look at the appointments for top level matches and the composition of the elite refereeing panels that South Africans are leading the way (Guess who are not leading the way!!!). This would not be possible if it wasn’t for huge dedication from our referees.”
Andre Watson, SARU’s General Manager of Referees, said that every referee on the various panels had passed their fitness tests on Monday with flying colours.
“I’m extremely pleased with the results of the fitness tests,” said Watson.
“Our referees have worked very hard during the off-season and every one of them passed their fitness tests, of which the standard is quite high. This year, our referees are probably the fittest that they have ever been.”
Apart from the fitness tests, the referees will be tested on the laws of the game, as well as receive valuable input from SARU GM of High Performance, Rassie Erasmus, as well as two former Test props, Pieter de Villiers and Balie Swart. A total of 125 people are attending the camp.
The scrums have become a contentious area of the game and by bringing in Pieter and Balie, we’re hoping to ensure that our referees will be properly prepared to make the right calls at scrum time this season,” explained Watson.
“Pieter and Balie have explained to the referees the finer mechanics of the front rows at the scrums. We have put in a lot of work to ensure this area of the game is refereed consistently across all levels.
Consistency in the application of the laws is key for us, which is also why we have representatives of every provincial union with us this week. They will go back to their unions with DVDs and presentation material to ensure the message filters through to the lower levels as well.
“The team spirit at the camp is superb and the level of presentations done by guys like Mark Lawrence, Tappe Henning and Neville Heilbron is world class.”
Great to see our refs so highly rated. The big question is will we see any badly needed  improvements from the kiwi refs?

Bean Brain congratulations on another hilarious thread . You say yr refs are finally getting a rugby education - well better late than never mate . LMAO

Although i don't know whether you can teach old dogs new tricks Bean Brain and we're all a bit concerned about what you say they are planning so meticulously under the instruction of Andre Watson - as we all know what a filthy cheat he was as a ref. This news does'nt really inspire much confidence to be honest.

Big relief to see they're finally being tested on the laws of the game though mate. Does'nt sound like thats happened before . That would be the SA version of the rules i'm guessing.

At least they've passed their fitness tests - no mean feat given the obesity epidemic is hitting you so hard.

And time keeping should'nt be a problem either with all those gold watches being handed out as a sweetener. How does yr dodgy bonus system work again?

We all know corruption is rife in SA  but the world is watching you Bean Brain so try not to bring the game into disrepute like yr girlfriend Azarenka has done to tennis.

Brycy, that was a very funny reply and should really be enough to shut Baboon-ou up but sadly, he probably won't understand any of the multisyllabic words you used.

Scary thing for us South Africans is how close some of that is to the truth. I know there are a lot of Springbok supporters who have absolutely no idea how the rest of the world views us when it comes to referees, especially the embarrassing habit that many dullards like Baboon-ou have of blaming the ref every time our sides lose. We're not all like that, I promise!

Look out for a few promising young SA refs who will hopefully undo some of the damage done by home-town dinosaurs like Gert Bezuidenhout many years ago . . . Jaco Peyper and Jason Jafta are two who come to mind.

Brycy

My dear friend - you lways manage to shoot yourself in the foot.  Our good refs of the past is helping in referee development and everybody has to del with changed laws.   In New Zeakland the referee development porgram is handled by an incompetent - so the joke is on their refs.   Necaue their professional avisor is aknown incompetent - the refs will also be.   If thy do not byugger up completel - and the chances of success is minimal - they may in a few years time have a ref on the IRB test ref panel.  But as I said the chances of success by New Zealand refs are slim to non-existent.

not so clever mike...as Jalapeno has confirmed - what you refer to as ' our good refs of the past' , have actually damaged yr image on the world stage.

Refreshing to have posters that can confront their rugby past with such honesty the way Jalapeno has done.

A lesson for you in objectivity and constructive criticism there not so clever mike although a lesson in spelling might not go amiss either.

rooitwit I know you only pretend to read my posts (and no doubt others as well) as you find  obviously have difficulty with the written word. So I am posting a ffew key comments from the article above to lesson the burden and hopefully you will get a grasp o fwhat is being said:

South Africa’s top referees, currently at their annual planning camp in the North West province, are the reasons why they consistently rank amongst the best in the world (Note the word consistently)

It’s evident when you look at the appointments for top level matches and the composition of the elite refereeing panels that South Africans are leading the way (Prove otherwise if you dispute this)

No wat the bottom of the pilewe have nz refs. Thier assessment of a good ref is Bryce Lawerence who wa sthe 2012 nz ref of the year. Nowto underline how absurd hat award wa s(for services rendered) one only has to nort eou BL wa booted off the IRB elite ref panel and is not even reffing Super 15 last i heard.

Bwahahahahahahhahahahahaha - game set and match.

Brycy its very seldom ou rooitit get sit right so when he agrees with you you need t ojust quietly ask yourlself am I wrong here?

Ou rooitwit is so scared to crit a ref that on one occassion a sharks player was spear tackled, lande don hi shead and the ref Dickinson I blelieve it was, haddone no wrong in ou rooitwits eyes!!!  ROTFL  ROTFL  ROTFL You have to admit that is very lame!

Spot on Mike is a characte flaw after all so it needs an ethical solution and that has been decades in not arriving. Bwahhahahahaha

So no more bleating Brycy facts are facts. Sometimes unpalatable of course but true. I will be watching nz carefuly and be assured I will give them cedit should they astonish everyone and show an improvement.

Case closed.

Bean Brain typing in bold type does'nt make what you say any more coherent . Go and take yr meds and get back to us when you can communicate a little more intelligibly.

As yr friend i must tell you that you're sounding like a complete retard coz thats what friends do.

Getting back to dodgy SA refs though Bean Brain . I beleve Jalapeno when he says things will improve .

I mean how could it get any worse ?

Just kidding but not sure whether they're worthy enough to be included with us amongst the best refs in the world though Bean Brain.

Maybe in a few years there will be a NZ born SA ref that will be acceptable.
