Zac Guildford withdraws indefinitely from the Crusaders

NZRU -

NZRU Chief Executive Steve Tew said: "It has been a challenging week for everyone involved, and we are working closely with the Players' Association and his Manager to ensure that he gets the professional help he needs and is held accountable for his actions.

"As people may appreciate, this is an employment matter and we must ensure that the process both respects his right to a fair hearing and our legal obligations as an employer.

"We also have a responsibility to the wider game and all those who support it. We are working hard to deliver on our obligations to the game.

"Zac's withdrawal from the Crusaders means they are able to concentrate on preparing for their 2013 season, and Zac will be free from rugby to concentrate on resolving his personal issues.

"We will remain in touch with Zac to monitor his progress and will address the issue of misconduct at the appropriate time."

New Zealand Rugby Players Association CEO Rob Nichol said: "Zac has a renewed acceptance of the challenges he faces.

"We have taken the advice of experts and Zac is committed to the plan they have developed. It is fundamental that he commits fully to the plan, and sees it through.

"This means withdrawing from the rugby environment.

"We are all supporting Zac during what will be a challenging time. Zac himself wants to make the most of the opportunity provided and is very appreciative of the support he is receiving."

all the best with ur rehab zac, get ur life sorted vefore concentrating on ur rugby career. thoughts and prayers with u and ur whanau.

huge loss for the crusaders, especially wirh maitland playing in scorland, they could have used zac big time for the spXV. they still have ample of talent, 11 t marshal, 14 a whitelock, 15 i dagg and mcnicholl can cover on the bench, but any injuries to the outside three is going to hurt them against the bigger teams, but if that crusaders vs stormers match in 2011 is anything to go by, crusaders are more than capable of beating the best in the comp with a weakened team.

Sasue

You must be the salt of the earth and it comes through in your messages constantly.  I can only wish the same as you wrote about Zac.   He will come through and I suppose the rehab is going to be successful - if his wish to be free from alcohol is sincere.

As to the Stormers game against the Crusaders last year - the Stormers team fielded was in fact a joke and I never thought they would beat the Crussaders - so I think people must view things in perspective and not read too much into that game.

The issue of the Crusader  performances in 2013 is rather complicted.   Despite Beeno's mumblings I think McCaw has a massive influnece as captain in the performances of the team as a whole.   He is leaving a big void this year and I think it will be a major problem for the Crusaders.   A loss like Zac is also problematic - but as I read the rticle - he may be back after three or so months.   Lets hope for the best though.

Poor Crusaders - they have to play the Stormers at Newlands and I forsee some serious problems for them in that game.

@mikey,

the feelings mutual buddy, :o)

in regards to the stormers/crusaders game, i actually meant the 2011 round robin match in newlands, where the crusaders started the match without McCaw, carter, andy ellis, brad thorn, sam whitelock, but the craziness happened in the match when the when murphys law and lady injury joined forces to tag team the crusaders.
dagg gets injured 5mins into play, adam whitelock comes of the bench to replace him.
29th min sean maitland gets injured, tom marshall comes on to rep;ace him.
30th minute khan fotuallii crusaders 2nd pick halfback gets injured, wili heinz comes on to replace him. ( no more back reserves on the bench)
35th minute, adam whitelock who replaced dagg gets injured, jonthan pff loose forward reserve replaces him. matt todd openside flanker is shuffled out to the wing.

for over 40 minutes the crusaders played on a wing and a prayer a flanker for the wing BTW, lolz but managed to beat the stormers 20-14.

the game took its toll on both franchises though, cos the following week the crusaders lost to the cheetahs and the stormers lost to the chiefs, who were both very weak that year.

thats why if any team can handle some personal issues its the crusaders.

u comments in the past are correct, definately not as strong as some of the crusaders squads in yesteryear, but still strong enough to win this comp IMO.

 Seems more serious than a few drunk nights out. Unfortunate as he is a top quality winger. Even for the All Blacks he is a loss, although NZ has lots of depth at wing so he is going to be a major loss for the Crusaders. I expect the Crusaders will have a slow start to the season which sometimes they do, just wonder at what stage in the tournament they will get into top form and when Mccaw is coming back. Although Mccaw got penalised for illegal play allot in last years tournament

Sorry about the misunderstanding - I was referring to the 2012 game.   2011 is ancient history - so lets think about the nect one.  I am still sorry for the poor Crusaders/

@sharkbok,
yeah at first i thought the crusaders would be hurt with zac gone from the equation, especially with maitland in scotland and the srusaders retarded desicion not to recruit patirck osbourne who was an absoloute gun for canterbury in the ITM, very fruean like but on the wing.
but after some deabte on NZ forums, ive had a change of heart and zacs inclusion actually lightens blackadders selection headache load, cos there is still plenty of superstar level talent left to burn in the crusaders depth.

my full strength crusaders backline with the new squad would be,,,
9 andy ellis
10 daniel carter
11 tom marshall
12 ryan crotty
13 robbie fruean
14 adam whitelock
15 israelt dagg

20 willie hienz
21 tyler blyendaal
22 tom taylor

carter, ellis, dagg, taylor are all All Black quality players, fruean, crotty, whitelock and marshall are all fringe AB players and marshall and willie heinz are spXV level stars.
crusaders depth is very solid and should an injury occur to any of the backs, they will call in johnny mcnicholl who is specialist winger and was booming with x factor in the ITM.

@sharkbok,

u might find it, surprising, but most penalties given out to players are for illegal plays, LMAO, :o)

but FYI McCaw was only penalised 8 times in the 2012 spXV from 10 games, so thats nothing really, especially when u compare it to the likes of brussow - 19, pocock - 19, bismark - 21, derick minnie - 31 who conceded way more, especially on average.
