Fleck excited by Stormers depth
January 25, 2013, 11:46:10

Ex Sport 24

Cape Town - Stormers backline coach Robbie Fleck is excited about the amount of depth available to the Cape franchise this year.
"This is one of the strongest Stormers groups I've seen since my playing days," the former Springbok centre told Die Burger. (AGREE)
Fleck is particularly impressed with the backline players at his disposal, most notably Lions recruits Elton Jantjies and Jaco Taute, as well as utility back Damian de Allende.
"Elton and Jaco will give our backline something different and unique. Both play with flair and will make us considerably stronger. They both fitted in nicely and are thriving in our team culture. 9Is Mike heading for a large dollip of egg one wonders re Jantjes?)
"Damian as centre will also provide something different than Jean de Villiers and Juan de Jongh. It's very healthy. Damian can also play left or right wing, while Jaco can play fullback, inside or outside centre. We have a lot of depth at the back."
Flyhalf Jantjies and Peter Grant will be rotated during the season, with Fleck confirming that Grant may at times also wear the No 12 jersey.
Bok skipper De Villiers, who turns 32 on February 24, will also be carefully managed during the season. (All the players need to be propelry manged to prevent burnout and injury - wise up please Alistair!)
The Stormers play two warm-up games against the Cheetahs (February 2 in Bloemfontein) and Boland (February 9 in Cape Town).
They start their Super Rugby campaign away to the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld on Friday, February 22.
Great squad provided the injury plague stays far away! Bring home the trophy guys!

I know Fleck personally - but is he not the one that was show ponying behind the goal psosts and got tackled from behind losing the ball in the process and thus a certain try?

Big talker - but is he going to liven up that dead backline he coached last year?  Can do with De Allende, Du Plessis and Howard around - but he will not use them proeprly and stick withthe dead wood.

a very average player and now a even more rubbish coach. coached a varsity team to 6 place in the local WP club comp and suddenly got called up to the wp setup in less than year or so. he must be doing some favours or must at least be doing someone to still even have a job after the woefull couple of season in terms of try scoring

Mike how many coaches considering Jantjes being an asset to the Stormers must there be before you stop a moment and consider whether you are overstating your case. Oh the ego invovled! Zip It

Muncher, Fleckie may not inspire huge confidence but one has to admit there wasn't too much wrong with WP In the Currie Cup campaign. Scored lots of  tries. Wasnt he the coach o fthe successful Ikeys outfit. Also, most importantly, there has been a change in mindset. Fleckie may not have been all to blame for a non try scoring backline.

No more knee jerk reaction oaks a bit of thought please! Duh

You got me here - did I say anything about Earl Silky Hands in my comments?   How many coaches have in fact been wrong about him and never admitted as such?   I am not at all convinced that Earl Silky Hands is any good and will wait with my real assessment until later in the season.
