Dan Carter in doubt for Welsh Test

Carter has been named at ten for the All Blacks, and initially Hansen said his absence from training was merely precautionary.

However the All Blacks coach said that a decision will be made over Carter in the next 24 hours.

If he is replaced, it is likely that Aaron Cruden will walk into the starting team for the second straight week, with Beauden Barrett under a minor cloud with rib troubles.

As the All Blacks trained at the University of Glamorgan in Pontypridd, Carter looked to be in discomfort after kicking the ball - although there was no repeat of his agonising fall when kicking a ball in training last year prior to facing Canada - an apparently simple act which ruled the Crusaders maestro out of last year's Rugby World Cup.

That groin injury ruled him out of rugby for the remainder of last season, while hamstring and calf complaints have seen him miss tests against Ireland, Argentina and South Africa.

The potential for Carter to be ruled out could cause a complete change in the halves, with named starting halfback Aaron Smith being careful with his knee injury suffered against Italy in Rome, although it is not expected to rule out the Highlanders number nine.

this is a little worrying, especially with barret out injured as well. but if carter is out, i would imagine that weepu would then be covering flyhalf on the bench while kerr barlow gets called into 22 to cover halfback.

this would be a great opportunity for the welsh, but i still expect the All Blacks to win but still it wont be a beating.
with carter ABs by 20pts +, without carter, ABs by 12pts +.

get better soon carter and,,,

GO THE MIGHTY MIGHTY ALL BLACKS!!!

saSUE some realism in what you say. Carter sparked a lot against Sctoland.

However if the Welsh cannot get up for this one then I will be surprised. Somehow they have to ensure they dont drop out of the top 8.

Dan Carter injured again - I hope it is not serious and that he will play.   Since the WC he has suffered a number of injuries that kept him out of the game for substantial periods of time - did he not?   His injury problems seems to get more and more and I do think it is really a pity - this wonderful player deserves better.

Time for him to move to Cape Town and start enjoying himself with the more than willing young ladies?   LOL

@ben10,

the physcological edge of facing the No1 team in the world will be wegihing heavily on the welsh, and ebven with the return of gatland who is on 6 game winning streak, the All Blacks should win and maintain their undefeated professional era streak against the red dragons.
i also think that the wallabies will beat them the following weekend, making it a miserable autmun series for tehm, but they really should have beaten the SH minnows in the pumas and samoa, so they have noone to blame but themselves, feel sorry for my man rhydzter though whose a hardcore dragons supporter.

@clevermike,
LMAO, like a shark with the scent of blood, i had a very good feeling that a thread about an injury to a senior All Black player would have u swimming i these waters, :oP
if i ever need to catch a clevermike, at least i know what bait ill use, :oD

carters injury has not raised the alarms, but it has raised my eyebrows. he still missed more games in 2009 then he has in 2012, but given that hes 30 and is targeting the RWC, my raised eyebrows and ur questions are justified.

it might be time for NZ rugby and hansen in particluar to show their 2nd to none player mangement skills and play carter for the big matches, while splitting the load of the other test matches with cruden and barret. by big matches i mean the wallabies, Springboks, eng and france.
hansen also needs to start trusting cruden and to a lower extent barret some more, as he will not bench carter if the match is too close.

Nice one - I like your [removed]ofy bringing in a Shark - especially since I ain fact am a Shark supporter.  LOL

In any event - I am worried about Carter - one of the players I really admire.   Injuries to players are really one of the outcomes of an extremely physical and hard game they are involved in.    I think that you are right about Hansen - he should manage and protect Carter more by reducing his test work load.    I hope he does - because to see Carter at work is always sheer pleasure and if they continue in prresent vein New Zealand will lose one of their best.
