The Grand Slam tour is on.....
November 17, 2012, 20:51:06

....last done in 2008. And before that in 97, as part of the long winning streak. Unless of course you count the negative grand slam we acheived under Destroyli in 2002, when we lost every game.

So I wonder, are Slim Mike and the Swami still picking the Poms?

mozart, with respect, Grand slam means that you beat all the home nations. Scotland, Ireland, wales and England. We didn't get a grand slam in 2008 as we didn't play Ireland

Mozart

After todays performance we will have to improve massively to have a chance against England.   I think Meyer would not pick De Jongh for anything - he today was up to the standard he was in Super 15 - absolutely harmless and in some respect a liability - eg that tackle he missed and the knock on. of the first ball he received.

Believe me - we are in serious trouble insofar as the props are concerned.   Steenkamp lasted 15 minutes before he crumbled and he did NOTHING whatsoever outside the scrum.   And then we have that other star prop Van der Linde.   Just one question - how many penalties are a prop allowed per 15 minutes - he gave away a penalty in every scrum in that case.

Mind you Steenlamp managed slightly better.   He was firm in three scrums and then the collapse followed after that.   Meyer made a serious mistake with his selection of props and centers - end of story.

I said the Scottish game would be tight - we were bloody lucky about that intercept try of Strauss.   Bar that we would have lost taking into accouny Van der Linde's star performance.

Mozart - whenever will you learn that this is not  game for rugby geriatrics and over-weight and unfit EXPERIENCED PLAYERS.

Yes - I think there is a 90% chance of us losing next week. .

Tell that to the AB's, they try and achieve it every now and then. Aus tried it a few years ago.

That's right 107, the All Blacks won their last grand slam in 2010.

Mozart: Grand Slam tours are definitely still happening.

Boks have won 4 to date but last time was in 1960-61. Recently they have failed to achieve it in 1998, 2004 & 2010.

ABs have also won 4 with them being successful in 2005, 2008 & 2010.

LMAO! How ignorant is this idiot?? The Boks played a Grand Slam tour less than 2 years ago, Wigboy.

Earlier he claims 2008 as a GS win for the Boks when they didnt play Ireland. LOL. Is it history or geography that Wigboy is strugging with?

Small things amuse small minds..... Old Fruit. Actually if you look up Grand Slam in rugby....this is what you get:

"3. (Team Sports / Rugby) (often capital) Rugby Union the winning of all five games in the annual Six Nations Championship involving England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, and Italy "

The interesting thing here, is the addition of Italy....who would not have featured historically. So the definition of Grand Slam changed....just as it did in golf. Nothing is cast in stone.

I used the term in it's more general sense as defined by Webster's:

"a clean sweep or total success; specifically : the winning of all the major or specified tournaments on a tour"

There are two accepted contexts for 'Grand Slams' in rugby, one for those competing in the Six nations, and one for those touring the home nations sides...from wikipedia...

In rugby union, a Grand Slam (Welsh: Y Gamp Lawn. French: Le Grand Chelem) occurs when one team in the Six Nations Championship (or its Five Nations predecessor) manages to beat all the others during one year's competition. This has been achieved 37 times in total, for the first time by Wales in 1908, and most recently again by Wales in 2012. The team to have won the most Grand Slams is England with 12.

In another context, a Grand Slam tour refers to a touring side – South Africa, Australia or New Zealand – which plays fixtures against all four home nations (England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales) during their tour. If the tourists then win all of those matches, they are said to have achieved a Grand Slam. This has been done nine times, first by South Africa in 1912–13, and most recently by New Zealand in 2010.

I think from the defintion that I wrote in Wikipedia a few months ago, that the boks cant win a grandslam.

Although beating England would be nice.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!

Wigboy, read your ignorant comments, then read poi-e's comment where he describes what a grand slam really means and then tell us, did you not know any rugby history or did you think Ireland was not one of the home nations in a rugby sense?

LMAO!!! I love seeing a pompous know it all getting pwned!
