Samoa consigned struggling Wales to a fifth straight loss by winning an attritional test match 26-19 at the Millennium Stadium on Friday, earning the South Sea Islanders a third victory in Cardiff.

The Samoans outscored the Six Nations champions three tries to one with Faatoina Autagavaia, George Pisi and Johnny Leota going over for scores at the Millennium Stadium, and Tusi Pisi kicking 11 points.

Despite being outplayed, the Welsh somehow led 13-10 at the break thanks to Ashley Beck's interception try in the 32nd minute.

Leigh Halfpenny's fourth penalty put them 19-18 ahead midway through the second half but Leota's late try sealed a deserved victory for Samoa, a second-tier nation which continues to be Wales' bogey team.

Wales lost 26-12 to Argentina last weekend.

Samoa 26 (Faatoina Autagavaia, George Pisi, Johnny Leota tries; Tusi Pisi conversion; Tusi Pisi 3 penalties), Wales 19 (Ashley Beck try; Leigh Halfpenny conversion, Leigh Halfpenny 4 penalties). HT: 10-13

This must be dire straits for Wales. Warren Gatland must be fuming. Losing home games is not acceptable for any international team especially to teams that are not ranked highly.

congrats samoa, what an awesome game. manu samoa are fast becoming a bogey team for the welsh.

its amazing what samoa can produce when they have all their stars playing.
also turns the tables on those who always moan about NZ and their so called pilfering of pacific island players, as if all the nations who use foregin players twist their arm, lmao.

the NZ born samoans in the manu samoa team,,,
kahn fotualii auckland
johnny leota palmerston north
daniel leo dunedin
census johnstone auckland
james johnstone auckland
jeremy sua wellington
paul williams auckland,
tefilo paulo auckland,

fact,,,there are more NZ born samoans in this manu samoan team, then there have been pacific island born of any prigin in the All Blacks for the last 5 years.

Nothing to be ashamed of Imo. Teams ranked 4-12 all need to bring their "A" game or they will be beaten no matter where their ranked. Tonga beat France last year in the WC. Yes, maybe France backed off a bit, but that just proves my point.

Something went wrong with the Welsh since 2011 and better still the 6 Nations of last yeat.  The question is what was really the case.   Was Wales a good team when it came to the close defeat by the Springboks and by their very close losses against the Wallabies earlier this year - or was those performances good - because the opposing teams were so poor?

The answer pribably is the latter.   The SA team of 2011 comprise of the worst set of  RUGBY GERIATRICS imaginable.   That really was a team that could be beaten.   What did they beat in the 6 Nations.   Scotland and Italy are the traditiobnal bottom of the logs teams - not consistent at all.   They do hve the odd wins from time to time - but that indeed is a rarity.   Ireland has gone down in recent years - because of a lack of a comprehensive team development process to repalce their own set of rugby geriatrics and England is in a team rebuilding phase themselves.   The French is utterly unpredictable - brilliant in one game and horrible in the next.   No wonder they beat that lot last year.

This year the Aussies at home really struggled against the Welsh - but since then there performances were a mixed bag.   They beat the Springboks at home - nothing really considering the team selected by Meyer for that game - and drew against the All Blacks in another game.   The Aussies in fact was in general not convincing at all this year.

Come along this latest season and the Welsh flopped against Argentina and Samoa to an extent indicating that the Welsh team is not what they have been given out to be - ie strong contenders for moving up in the IRB ratings.    They are in fact going the other way.
