Southern Pukes Preparation is going well for 2013 SuperXV

At this stage still very few signings. They are going to get hammered. It is going to be a nightmare for them. All the Lions players are being loaned to other unions. The Watsons are going to tarnish their repuation even further.

Kings blocked from signing further foreign players

The South African Rugby Union (SARU) have blocked the Southern Kings from building a Super Rugby squad for next year filled with foreign rugby talent.

SARU have confirmed that the maximum number of foreign players per Super Rugby franchise in South Africa will remain limited to two players.

The Kings were given a place in next year's Super Rugby tournament at the expense of the Lions who they will face in a promotion relegation match next season if the Kings finish in last place for South African teams.

The Kings will be guided by former Canterbury and Crusaders hooker and now Kings Head coach Matt Sexton and former Ulster, Northampton and Springboks assistant coach Alan Solomons.

Head coach Sexton who is on a two year contract despite the Kings only being gauranteed one year of Super Rugby revealed to New Zealand media this week that the Kings playing roster is currently only half full and said recently that they were hoping to sign six foreign players.

The Kings had asked SARU to lift the restriction while they build a Super Rugby squad as the Australian Rugby Union did for the Melbourne Rebels.

The Kings were created to develop and hold on to talent in the Eastern Cape region of South Africa and Boss Cheeky Watson said earlier this week that they had signed Argentina's Nicolas Vergallo and New Zealand Aucklander Hadleigh Parkes.

However the signings may not be allowed to go ahead as the Kings already have New Zealand prop Clint Newland and Samoan wing Paul Perez on their books.

Vergallo is believed to be signed to Toulouse until 2014 so his signing may not go ahead anyway but the Kings appear to already have more than their quota of foreigners.

Sharkbok

This is really going to be a disaster.   The Queens may be on top of the Group 1 CC competition log - and it is likely that they Would have to play in a play-off to get to proper CC-level.   They are very likely to lose that play-off game.   It would create the situation that a SA franchise that cannot even play in the CC competition will end up on Super Series level. .

In essence they are going to struggle to get enough outside players from other franchises in SA.   Most effective players will shy away from playing for a team that is bound to lose all their matches.    The players they do get may be CC - level players who would struggle to get into their provincial squad for Super 15 or whose position in the franchises are threatened by new players coming through - Sykes being an example of that.

I am not surprised that SARU turned down their application for more than two foreign players.   I believe the final word on the issue have not been spoken - Watson has enough political links that could result in pressure applied by the Govenment to force a change in the decision.   The reason for the refusal probably is that Watson's main argument for promotion of the Queens was that it would promote rugby in the Eastern Caoe Region that would play on Super level.   Allowing them to sign up extra foreign players would mean nothing relating to rugby development in the region, whilst their actions effectively exposed the fraudulent arguments they raised on the issue with their application to SARU.

Under the circumstances I cannot see how the Queens can win a single game and pick up even one bonus point next year.   They can only disgrace SA Rugby in the competition..

I wouldn't complain boys. It'll give your other teams a guaranteed 10 points from the home and away games and give you an excellent chance of getting 3 teams in the play-offs! Just like this year!

Once again, it proves SA has a lack of depth despite your protestations to the contrary on this website!

Knowing how irritating the Kings inclusion is to many of the more obtuse South African bloggers I can't help but feel a kind if kinship with them. .  I really hope they do well next year and manage to keep safe from relegation. Given the fickle nature of provincial and super rugby in the republic I'd give the Kings an optimistic 50/50 chance of staying off the bottom of the SA'n conference.  I also have a bit of a soft spot for Cheeky and Luke. Generally it's possible to roughly gauge someone's political affiliations/sympathies by the way they regard the Watsons and EP rugby. It really does appear to be a polarising issue and the dividing line is often racially based.

Go the Kings ( nukes newest favourite SA'n Super team).

Mike I think its a diaster waiting to happen. The Queens have slipped in through the back door using the bait of black player development to get them in. However the chancesof them succeeding are growing dimmer by the day. Their credentials re black player deveopment have been severely dented and this will be very apparent when they field their second rate side which will take some big hidings.

If they had done the decent thing and built up their union it would not have caused all this disgust. If they had won promotion to the Currie Cup as a first step and then progressed from there till it looked fair and respponsible to give them a shot then one would say well done and good luck to them. Unfortunately this has not been the case and the queens and Watson are generally despised ouside of EP fo rthe wa ythe yhav egone about things.

Its  a pity as the queens genuinely pushing for Super 15 status on merit would be a good thing  - competition sharpens us.

As for 3 teams in Super 15 count  - well we did it this year without the queens so why not next year?

They have got one year in the Superxv to be an embarrasment. They are trying to lure in foreign players after using development of black players as their joker wild card. Now they are being blocked of getting in foreign players, all the Lions players are going to other unions on loan or pemanent. It is going to be a real mess.

@ Logic. "Almost every year we have 3 teams in the play-offs or top 6".

Now after the last spat we had over the Super Rugby stats where I proved you were talking horse shit, did you really think I wasn't going to check on your above wild statement????

Well I did and of course as usual you have run off at the mouth without checking the FACTS!!!!!!

How many times have you had 3 teams in the play-offs?  ONCE; that's how many!

Logic as usual employing typing skills prior to engaging the brain.

Back to business... as I said, you haven't got the depth to have a 5th team in the S15 and should go back to 4. That way you won't have a 10 point advantage over the OZ and NZ teams which you'll agree is a tad unfair.

Hold on......I thought you weren't going to post any more messages on this site??

Sorry Logic but the statement "Almost every year" would appear to me to reasonably mean the majority of years..... let's say 3 out of 4.

Not 1 out of  17 you tosspot!

And don't now come with " I meant the top 6' as this is not what you claimed.

Keep running off at the mouth and I'll keep proving you're wrong. And don't dare accuse me of being illiterate. You've obviously used the spell check to get it right. You should be able to afford a decent computer with your much publishised  $100k plus salary!

Moolaa, my original post has not been editted. Go an read it again. the 5th and 6th placed teams never used to get any reward...Only of late have they introduced the play off games.

Why would you make the spell check comment?? Are you impressed because you mess the word up so badly that even spell check cant figure out what you want? In reference to my salary..$100k is not a lot of money...It is if you are a half wit so I suppose you give that away...Bye for now Moolaa

racist, racialist, racialistic...Either is suitable...Is this an English lesson anyway Moolaa?

Ok Moolaa, your little brain is not coping so I will draw you a picture but first I wana let you know that your stupidity is tiring..Please think before you write...

When super rugby first started, we had only the semi finals..The top 4 teams contested those...(You still with me or have I lost your stupid arse already?)

Now we have the two play off games before the semis so its really the top 6 where you wana be now as opposed to just the top 4... Even in the days when only the top 4 were recognised, we would have had teams around 5th and 6th. Even though they did not get recognised, they were still there hence y point that we are not the worst performing country in Super rugby as you boys love to make out..Are you with me now..A lot to take in for you I know but please, try harder and apply yourself...

Logic. The top four is still the play-offs you nerd! Just admit that you keep running off at the mouth and can't back it up!!

Why did you say "The play-offs OR the top 6" then.

Once again the closet North Harbour supporter is owned by a Kiwi. Like taking candy off a baby!

And the failure to comprehend continues..Moolaa you are hard work boet...

For the last time, if you cant get it now, then you are destined to be a car guard...Play offs used to consist of the top 4 teams.. It was better known as the semi's...Now the playoffs consist of 6 teams with the new format. So when I said playoffs, I was referring to now..When I said top 6, I was referring to years gone bye even though 5th and 6th were not recognised.

(My word how dumb does a human have to be!)

Bullshit Logic and you know it! You can't argue your way out of this one.

Do you want me to troll through and tell you how many times you actually had 3 teams in the top 6 in the last 17 years?

Yes, I can hear you say, and guess what? The answer is still the same. ONCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So let's go back to your original statement which everyone here can read and is probably right now dying of embarrassment if they are a SA supporter.

"almost every year we have 3 teams in the play-offs or top 6"

Wrong again Logic1 If there was a "Shooting myself in the foot' Championship you would be untouchable mate.

Mikey, Beeno, Any Bok Supporter; please tell this oke when he is owned and beaten will you??
