I didnt realise how bad his injury was and TBH he still has a long way to go as he hasnt even started any rehab yet. Truly one of the greats of modern Rugby but I do wonder whether another a decet hit on his knee will put him straight back on the doctors table?

Good to see Hulk Burger coming back he is definately one SA player that is a cut above the current crop in any many ways...Boom

The injury itself was not that bad. The operation was not a success however. So when he did not comeback in the Superxv and stilll did not heal properly, he had to have the surgery done again.

Although he has broken his neck and made a comeback from this succesfully. He actually started out as an openside flank, but after he came back from injury he moved to blindside flank and 8th man, He is like Richie Mccaw in that he can play in any of the 3 loose forwards positions

He in his prime was as good as Richie but lackled the fetching qualities that Richie had otherwise he was up there with Richie, George Smith, Phil Waugh

I cant wait for him to come back but as I said another decent hit to his knee and he may be in trouble

World Champs

The type of injury to the knee normally does not result from a tackle or hit as you call it.   It basically stemmed froma player falling on top of a player with a knee in an awkward position.  The same happened to Bismarck Du Plessis and your pet hate Goosen.    A decent hit would not have the same affect - as the leg and body would not be affected in the same way -  the leg of the player concerned would give way and not land in a situation  where there is no yielding potential.   In very rare cases it also happened in late tackles - where the player concerned do not expect a tackle at all and the tackler fall on top of the tackled player.

This is any time as dangerous a play as a spear tackle and referees should also watch out for it as it could be done deliberately by teams - especially in those cases where certain opposition players are targetted  by the opposition team concerned.

World chump pleeeease!!!!!!! Burger is twice the player macaaaw is. One has to take into account Schalk is a gentlemen and plays withing the laws. You really dont think ou mcaaaw could achieve much legally!!! Bwahahahahahaha these kiwis really  dont get it.

Mike I get the drift of what you are insinuating. Perhaps an new nz tactic or rmere chance? Certainly worth watching out for. Who next is the question.

"One has to take into account Schalk is a gentlemen and plays withing (sic) the laws"

Bwahahahaha!  Thumb in your eye burger is one of the dirtiest players to ever  sully the game. Not surprisingly, his one eyed compatriots are oblivious to his penchant for "Fingering" opposition players. Burger doesnt just engage in your normal, run of the mill thuggery either. He prefers the more sinister, cowardly and despicable acts of cheating to ever tarnish the game.

I also seem to remember him abandoning his team in a Super Semi between the gentle breezers and the legendary Crusaders after he broke a fingernail. Sheesh that one broken nail kept him outta the game for months.  So, in addition to eye gouging thug, we can also add disloyal, selfish, weak willed and a girlishly low pain threshold to his sporting resume. Shame, I take that back. Most girls have a much higher pain threshold.

Nukefreekiwi

Why don't you go and spout your tripe on a Kiwi Board - we really do not  need lunatics on this site.   The other New Zealand posters are reasonable people that things can be debated with - you are the exact opposite,  You are polluting this Board  - so please leave asap,.

I tend to agree with Nukefreekiwi about Burger! Compared to Burger, Greyling is a Saint!

Beeno and mike, you seem confused!

Oh that's right. How could I have forgotten that infamous incident where thumb in your eye burger decided to shove Mark Lawrence around after an especially juvenile fanny flap. Not surprisingly, given his special, untouchable, not subject to the standard rugby laws, status, burger escaped that particularly cowardly indiscretion completely unscathed (just like when he eye gouged Pocock).  Yeah bean brain, burger is a real salt of the earth, butter wouldn't melt in his mouth Saffa gentleman........

how does it go again bean brain?  Oh, I remember......... bwahahahahaha

Mike please nuked kiwi is here to learn the game and because he is struggling no need to fail him completely and send him home!!! Where is your compassion, humanity and sense of serving!!!!

No Burger is a gentlemen nuked kiwi and no fictitious eye gouging fabrications can alter that. Burger has a reputaion for hard but clean play. A reputation far superior to mcheat I have to say! Bwahahahahahahaha

Long live the mighty Burger.

Hey you kiwis although I love giving you some food to think about in my role as educator you are all a great bunch!! That includes the love lorn Hakwa and my friend brycy, world chump we will get right. Like the Boks its all work in progress re all the kiwi bird brain!!

Hahahahahaha

Bye the way kiwis what do you most admire about Bok rugby. Please limit your reply to containable levels as this server is apparemtly over loaded due to some long winded blowhards over doing things here.

Lolz @ mickey for having to prefix his name with the word "clever". It's no different to someone calling themselves bigdickjohn or toughguyrobert. Me thinks someone us trying a little too hard to compensate for some glaringly obvious inadequacies. BTW I'm more than happy ( if youre man enough?) to "debate" burgers record as a recidivist eye gouger/thug/cheat. I' ve produced my evidence/references. Please feel free produce your own in support of bean brains assertion that schalk is a true gentleman who plays within the laws of the game.  Lolz. Good luck.

Pffft. Bean brains a little slower than most if his compatriots. Whilst many other saffa bloggers have moved on, bean brain is still wallowing in the "denial" phase of Kubler Ross's 5 stages of grief.  He still has anger, bargaining and depression to work through before finally graduating to the acceptance phase. This is of significant therapeutic value and the sooner bean brain can accept that his impotent bok have been the All Blacks whipping boy for the past 2 decades, the sooner bean can recover from this catatonic grief that currently ails him.

Im under no illusions that this past weekends thrashing in Soweto was the catalyst for bean brains recent decline. After all, the way the All Blacks pummelled the boks in their own back yard is akin to a gate crasher walking into your house, taking a dump on your living room floor, drinking your last beer before leaving with your wife in your car. Very traumatic. I'm not a heartless man. I am very sympathetic but I've always believed that the best way to deal with this kind of delirious episode is with shock therapy. That is, constant reminders that his living nightmare is a real event that can be overcome with counselling and regular therapy. No point mollycoddling bean brain. He needs to be constantly reminded that his irrational  delusions are only malevolent manifestations of  a disturbed imagination. Bean brain, no point denying it anymore. The springboks are most definitely in a state of freefall, getting incrementally worse with each passing game. Don't dispair bud. There's hope for you still bro.

Huh? Are you serious? Ok. Let me dumb it down so even the most cerebally challenged ( that's a polite euphemism for stupid) yarpie can catch my drift.

The springboks are most definitely in a state of freefall, (in laymens term I am basically saying the limp boks are kak)

getting incrementally worse with each passing game.  ( and......they are getting kaker/worse/shite with each new game)

"Don't dispair bud. There's hope for you still bro". (. Don't get too sad/unhappy/ cry cry, booboo. You could always start supporting the All Black instead)

Hahahahahaha, i swear its like trying to explain the colour blue to a blind man or what winning feels like to a Seth Efrican. You okes just don't have a reference I can try to relate to.
