Why hasn’t Meyer called up his bok training Squad yet?
July 26, 2012, 10:24:49

So the Aussies are already preparing for the upcoming championship by naming there squad well before the season is over. I was wondering why Meyer hasn’t started to bring some of his players together now that we have 3 SA teams out of the finals. After this week we will only have team in the competition. Wouldn’t it be better if he started bringing the players in now and whittle them down until the final Super rugby match has been played? Or is meyer just going to pick the bulls again?

Bulls are currently in a secret spa retreat and "recovering" .... oh no wait PdV already used that one.

I suspect he is waiting to see if the Sharks can smash the wall of the mighty Stormers fortress down and then (Please by all things awesome) he will change this freaking game plan and not pick the entire Bulls team again!!!

Selectors need to look at Sharks then Stormers then fill with Cheetahs&Bulls

yeah I also think we will hear something next week. however i feel that most of the team will consist of Sharks as was the case during the England tour. We won't see massive full scale change yet. It will come with time.

I just want to make sure that not a single Bulls players gets in the Starting 15. Between the Sharks and the Stormers we can have a great run on team. That said, it would also be a smack in the face to the stormers and sharks after their hard work that very few of their star players are selected.

Meyer use the excuse that he will use players that he knows for the England tour, but now he has more time and had time to work with them during the tour. Surely he can't hold on to these under performing bulls players.

Hopefully it is because nearly all of the Squad are Sharks and Stormers. I too do not want to see one bull in the team. The likes of Werner Kruger can get lost.

Hey guys wait a minute on the bulls issue thing here. Firstly. Most of the run on squad and Bench came from the sharks. I am sure if more stormers were fit they would have been picked. Bekker, Burger, Vermeulen come to mind. The only reason for the high number of Bulls was because of the injury list. Come on guys be a bit reasnable and clear minded on this.

there are some bulls that i believe should be there hougaard one of them. As well as Juandre should be in the squad. Spies as well if Vermeulen is unfit to play. and Basson should be in the squad.

The only reason that Kruger, Kirchener, Potgieter were picked was because of injury. They will be replaced by other players. i suspect Coenie, Peterson and Burger. burger is still injured so he might go with Potgieter again or he might decide to start blooding the youngsters that he had at the training camps as well.

The 6 youngsters that where with the bok squad during the England tour and might get blooded are, and who might get blooded and who not.

Kolisi - Might get a chance now, depending on the decisions regarding burger's replacement.

Malherbe - Too early there is still some development needed.

Stander - Going overseas, so might have lost his chance now.

Francois Venter - Too early, plus next year he might struggle to get game at the bulls with Serfontein etc. there.

Piet van zyl - I would pick him ahead of Vermaak, however, he might need some maturation yet.

Arno Botha - i would not pick him yet.

With all these youngsters that trained and traveled with the team during the England series there is a succesionplan guys. This will take time.

its pretty easy....the unions asked saru not to mention the names before the comp is concluded. they are worried it may sway player focus or might let them not play as they should (that is what i think) so i think we will know loser to the time of the final what is going on. the aussies are in far deeper crisis than NZ or AB so i reckon the need a longer time to prepare :)

Meyer doesn't have to call up all the players, just release some of the players names that he would like to join his training camp and then name your final squad until the last SA team has played.

I was hoping that he would do it in stages, this would have given him a great time to work with the players ahead of a long season. If he started two weak ago he could have started with the Lions and Cheetahs. Add some players afterwards, add some sharks / stormers and after the final name his final squad. But he would have had time to work with them and get all of the players up to speed.

Sorry we need some sanity here.  I am expeting a call from Meyer very soon - since I go for reality and not dreams.    I will strongly advice him to stay away as far as possible from the Bulls players with the rare exception of Hougaard and also avoid Jantjies like the plague.

There will be no squad assembly announced  before the Super 15 final - the squad will be announced shortly after the final whistle of the final - not a minute before that.   So hold your horses a bit - the shock will be setting in then.   Remember Meyer is loyal to the Bulls and the number of Bulls will cause a huge outcry countrywide.   Wait and see.

The Sharsk vs Stormers game should be massive and probably a trial game as to who gets selected for the boks. So meyer only need to rock up at Newlands and pick his team from that match. Don't even bother in calling up the bulls players.

But we all live in a world where things don't always work that way. I can see why players go over to the Bulls, you only need to be a reserve and you get selected for the boks.

Players that I don't want to see in the boks squad from the bulls are Morne Steyn, Greyling, Meisiekind, Kirchner, Flip Flop, Potgieter, Potgieter, Spoes. Basically the whole team bar Hougaard.
